Thirsk & Sowerby Dance run community based classes in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Jane Mowat began dancing aged three with the Gillian Farr School of Dance in Corringham Essex. This has since become The Performers College - one of the largest performing arts colleges in the South East. Jane studied ballet and modern dance but chose to dance purely as a hobby until she left Essex to attend Cardiff University. Joining the new Rubicon Dance Centre in Cardiff, Jane took up stage jazz and then street dance before diversifying to gain aerobic teaching qualificiations in 1985. Jane teaches lyrical/contemporary and Street Dance. In 1996, Jane was introduced to Bellydancing and this is where her dancing heart now well and truly lies.
Emma Skelton first started dancing at the Evelyn Whitcombe School of Dance in York aged 3. Since moving to Thirsk in 1997 she has studied with Marcia Smurthwaite taking her BATD ballet exams from Pre-Primary through to her Associate Teachers Exam on 5th July 2008. She has also taken BATD tap exams with Butterflies School of Dance. Emma is keen to use her experience to work with children who would like to take exams without any pressure and with maximum support and encouragement. She is continuing to work with Marcia Smurthwaite, building her teaching experience and ensuring that she can offer the highest level of support to her students. Emma studied Dance A Level at York College and teaches the senior lyrical/contemporary classes.
Both Jane and Emma continue to attend workshops and masterclasses whereever possible in order to maintain a high standard and ensure they are able to teach the latest technique.
